A ceremonial passing of the gavel during The Builders 138th Anniversary Event marks the start of Heitmann’s board chair tenure for one of the largest commercial construction associations in the country

Andy Heitmann, Vice President, Turner Construction Company

KANSAS CITY, Mo., Feb. 20, 2025 – The Builders, a chapter of the AGC, is pleased to announce the appointment of its 2025 Board of Directors. Andy Heitmann, vice president at Turner Construction Company, was seated as chair of the Board of Directors in a meeting Jan. 9, and a public “passing of the gavel” will take place Feb. 20 during the association’s anniversary event.

Heitmann is currently overseeing operations of the region’s largest commercial construction project, the Panasonic electric vehicle battery plant in De Soto, Kansas. He has been involved with The Builders for more than two and a half decades and first joined the board of directors in 2020.

“I’m a big ‘Plan the Work and Work the Plan’ guy,” Heitmann said. “The great staff here at The Builders under [President] Lance [Claiborne]’s leadership have set a strategy with the 2030 plan. My goal as chair is to assist staff in accomplishing a piece in each pillar of that plan this year.”

Heitmann will serve as chair alongside Vice Chair Steve Levy, McCownGordon Construction; Assistant Chair Keith Dorrian, A.L. Huber Construction; and Immediate Past Chair Angie McElhaney, Mark One Electric Company, Inc.

Newly elected to the board are LaMont Chandler, 4-Gen Construction Inc. and Rich Horton, Horton Electric, a division of The Waldinger Corporation.

“Andy is incredibly well-respected in this industry and brings a wealth of valuable experience to his role as chair,” said Claiborne. ”As we begin work on an ambitious five-year strategic plan for the association, his leadership will be critical in setting the tone and making progress.”

The ceremonial passing of the gavel to Heitmann will take place during the program portion of The Builders Anniversary Event on Feb. 20, 2025, at the Uptown Theater in Kansas City, Missouri. More than 300 members of the association are expected to attend.

New to the anniversary event in 2025, The Builders will also recognize a member volunteer with the inaugural Builders Spotlight Award. The award is nominated and voted on by Builders staff to honor individuals whose exceptional contributions to advancing the association’s mission and vision may fly under the radar, yet make a significant impact. The 2025 Builders Spotlight Award winner is Dwayne Hartman, Lockton. Hartman has served as a Builders Midwest Construction Safety Conference committee member for 15 years.

The event will also be the public introduction of the 2025-2026 Kansas City Chapter of the AGC Board of Directors President Cody Showalter, McCownGordon Construction. Because the association’s membership was unified under the umbrella of The Builders, a chapter of the AGC, Showalter will serve as the final president of that board, which will formally wind down at the conclusion of his term.
