Lunch & Learn: Preserving and advancing a contractor’s rights of collection

Collection of amounts owed under a construction contract start before the contract is ever signed and continues throughout a project. This course will examine ways to ascertain the likelihood of payment before you ever step foot on a jobsite, to preserve your right to suspend work for nonpayment and/or to file liens or bond claims, and to set yourself up for success through effective contract negotiation.

• Mechanic's liens
• Payment bond claims

Lee Brumitt, is a director and shareholder with the Dysart Taylor McMonigle Brumitt & Wilcox law firm where he has practiced law since 1984. His law practice focuses on construction law and litigation. Lee is a frequent advocate for general contractors, subcontractors, suppliers, and specialty contractors and has represented all tiers of construction on public, commercial and residential projects. Lee has presented seminars on construction topics for The Builders, the American Subcontractors Association, The American Society of Professional Estimators, Johnson County Licensing, and other industry trade groups, as well as state and local bar associations.
